Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs Met Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand to Support Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship

On 11 February 2019, Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Director-General, Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and officials from the Department attended a working lunch hosted by H.E. Mr. Benjamin King, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand during the latter’s visit to Thailand. The Ambassador of New Zealand to Thailand, the Ambassador of New Zealand to ASEAN, the Deputy Chief Executive, New Zealand EAS and ARF Senior Official, and officials from the New Zealand Embassy were also present at the Meeting.

The New Zealand delegation expressed its full support for Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019, especially in the area of sustainable development as reflected through the theme “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”. Both sides also took this opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues.

New Zealand became ASEAN’s Dialogue Partner since 1975. The ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue relations was elevated to strategic partnership in 2015 and New Zealand hopes the ASEAN-New Zealand 45th Anniversary Summit will be held next year.
